A bronchodilator containing an anticholinergic and a long-acting beta2-adrenergic agonist. It works by relaxing the smooth muscles in the airways, improving airflow, and making breathing easier in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
Indication:
- Maintenance treatment of airflow obstruction in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), including chronic bronchitis and emphysema.
Main Active Ingredients:
- Umeclidinium bromide 62.5 mcg.
- Vilanterol trifenatate 25 mcg.
Precautions:
- Not for relief of acute symptoms or sudden breathing problems.
- Use with caution in patients with cardiovascular disorders, urinary retention, or narrow-angle glaucoma.
- Avoid using with other long-acting beta2-agonists or anticholinergic medicines.
- Discontinue immediately if paradoxical bronchospasm occurs.
- Consult your healthcare provider if symptoms worsen or do not improve.
Side Effects:
- Headache.
- Cough.
- Sore throat.
- Constipation.
- Muscle cramps.
- Sinusitis.
- Palpitations or irregular heartbeat.
Drug-Drug Interactions:
- Concomitant use with other anticholinergic agents such as tiotropium, glycopyrronium, or ipratropium may increase the risk of anticholinergic side effects.
- Beta-blockers such as propranolol, atenolol, or metoprolol may reduce the effectiveness of vilanterol and should be used with caution.
- Use with caution together with other beta2-adrenergic agonists such as salmeterol or formoterol due to the risk of additive cardiovascular effects.
- Strong CYP3A4 inhibitors such as ketoconazole, itraconazole, clarithromycin, or ritonavir may increase systemic exposure to vilanterol and enhance the risk of adverse reactions.
