A lipid-lowering agent that works by reducing the absorption of cholesterol from the intestine. It is mainly used to lower elevated cholesterol levels in the blood, either alone or in combination with other medications, to reduce cardiovascular risk.
Indications:
- Management of primary hypercholesterolemia (high cholesterol) in adults and adolescents.
- Treatment of homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (genetic high cholesterol), usually with statins.
- Used in combination with statins or other lipid-lowering agents when additional cholesterol reduction is required.
Main Active Ingredient:
- Ezetimibe 10 mg.
Precautions:
- Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to ezetimibe or any component of the formulation.
- Avoid in moderate to severe liver impairment.
- Use with caution in patients with kidney impairment.
- Not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding unless prescribed.
- Regular monitoring of liver enzymes when used with statins.
- Should be used as part of a comprehensive cholesterol-lowering plan including diet, exercise, and lifestyle changes.
