A leukotriene receptor antagonist used for the prevention and treatment of asthma and allergic rhinitis. It works by blocking leukotrienes, substances in the body that cause airway inflammation, bronchoconstriction, and allergy symptoms.
Indications:
- Long-term management and prevention of asthma.
- Relief of daytime and nighttime symptoms of seasonal allergic rhinitis (hay fever).
- Relief of perennial allergic rhinitis symptoms.
- Prevention of exercise-induced bronchospasm.
- As add-on therapy in patients not adequately controlled with inhaled corticosteroids.
Main Active Ingredient:
- Montelukast sodium 10 mg (chewable tablet).
Precautions:
- Not indicated for acute asthma attacks; patients should have rescue medication available.
- Use with caution in patients with history of psychiatric disorders (depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts).
- Monitor liver function in patients with hepatic impairment.
- Not a substitute for inhaled or oral corticosteroids do not abruptly discontinue steroids.
- Caution in patients with phenylketonuria (chewable tablets may contain aspartame).
- Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding only if clearly needed and prescribed by a physician.
