A leukotriene receptor antagonist used in the prevention and long-term management of asthma, seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis, and exercise-induced bronchospasm. It helps control inflammation, improve breathing, and reduce allergy symptoms.
Indications:
- Long-term management and prevention of asthma.
- Relief of symptoms of seasonal allergic rhinitis (hay fever).
- Relief of symptoms of perennial allergic rhinitis.
- Prevention of exercise-induced bronchospasm.
- As add-on therapy in patients not adequately controlled with inhaled corticosteroids.
Main Active Ingredient:
- Montelukast sodium 10 mg (per tablet).
Precautions:
- Not indicated for acute asthma attacks; patients should always have rescue medication available.
- Use with caution in patients with:
- History of psychiatric disorders (depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts).
- Hepatic impairment (monitor liver function).
- Phenylketonuria (chewable formulations may contain aspartame).
- Do not abruptly discontinue inhaled or oral corticosteroids when starting therapy.
- Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding only if prescribed by a physician.
- Regular monitoring is advised for patients with worsening asthma symptoms.
