A vaginal antifungal medication used to treat vaginal yeast infections and fungal-related inflammation by inhibiting ergosterol synthesis in fungal cell membranes, leading to disruption of fungal growth and cell death.
Indications:
- Vaginal discharge caused by fungi (mainly Candida).
- Vaginal inflammation due to fungal infections.
- Mixed or superinfections involving clotrimazole-sensitive bacteria.
Main Active Ingredient:
- Clotrimazole 200 mg per vaginal tablet.
Precautions:
- Do not use if allergic to clotrimazole or any excipients.
- Use with caution in the first trimester of pregnancy; avoid applicator use during pregnancy.
- Avoid treatment during menstruation.
- Inform your doctor of concurrent medications (e.g., amphotericin, nystatin, dexamethasone).
- Keep out of reach of children.
- Do not store above 30 °C.
- Do not use after the expiry date on the carton/blister.
Side Effects:
- Occasionally: Vaginal burning, stinging, mild skin reactions (redness, rash, itching).
- Rarely: Blisters, peeling, edema, contact allergy.
- Very rarely: Abdominal cramps, increased urination.
Drug–Drug Interactions:
- May reduce effectiveness of amphotericin and other polyene antifungals (nystatin, natamycin).
- High doses of dexamethasone may reduce clotrimazole efficacy.
