The rise is the height from the ground to where the top of the ramp will rest. The recommended slope ratio is 1:12, which means for every inch of rise, you will need twelve inches (1 foot) of ramp. So a 12 inch rise would require a 12 foot ramp to achieve a 1:12 ratio. The higher the rise, the longer the ramp will need to be.
