A long-acting insulin injection is used to control high blood sugar by regulating glucose levels over a 24-hour period.
Indications:
- Management of diabetes mellitus in adults.
- Management of diabetes mellitus in children aged 6 years and older.
- Support for basal insulin coverage in insulin therapy.
Main Active Ingredient:
- Insulin Glargine 300 IU/mL.
Precautions:
- Do not use if you have low blood sugar or an allergy to insulin or any ingredients.
- Rotate injection sites to prevent lipodystrophy or localized skin reactions.
- Monitor for heart failure if taking thiazolidinediones (TZDs) with insulin.
- Inform your doctor about your liver, kidney, pregnancy, or breastfeeding status.
- Do not dilute, mix, or transfer Toujeo from the pen to another device.
- Verify correct insulin type before injection.
- Avoid driving or operating machinery until you know the effect of Toujeo.
Side Effects:
- Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia), which may be severe or life-threatening.
- Injection site reactions: redness, swelling, itching, and fat tissue changes.
- Swelling, weight gain, low potassium.
- Severe allergic reactions, including rash, swelling of the face/tongue/throat, difficulty breathing, and extreme dizziness.
Drug-Drug Interactions:
- May interact with other medications affecting blood sugar levels.
- Concomitant use with TZDs may worsen heart failure.
- Inform your doctor of all prescription, OTC, herbal, and dietary supplements.
