A lipid-lowering medication from the statin class that works by inhibiting HMG-CoA reductase, an enzyme responsible for cholesterol synthesis in the liver. It helps reduce elevated cholesterol, triglycerides, and LDL levels while increasing HDL cholesterol, thereby lowering the risk of cardiovascular events.
Indications:
- Treatment of primary hypercholesterolemia (heterozygous familial and non-familial).
- Treatment of mixed dyslipidemia (high cholesterol and triglycerides).
- Treatment of homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (adjunct to diet and other therapies).
- Reduction of cardiovascular risk (heart attack, stroke, revascularization) in patients with risk factors.
Main Active Ingredient:
- Rosuvastatin 10 mg.
Precautions:
- Contraindicated in patients with active liver disease or persistent, unexplained elevations of liver transaminases.
- Avoid use in pregnancy and breastfeeding.
- Use with caution in patients with renal impairment.
- May increase risk of muscle-related side effects (myopathy, rhabdomyolysis), especially at higher doses.
- Regular monitoring of liver function tests and lipid levels is recommended.
- Discontinue if muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness occurs with elevated creatine kinase.
- Use with caution in patients consuming large amounts of alcohol.
